As a thoughtful and informed global citizen, you know that many children in Africa, especially girls, face significant barriers to getting an education. In Tanzania, for example, if there are financial challenges, girls are pulled from school. If the schools don’t have washrooms for girls, they stay home. Very often, teachers are not trained to facilitate inclusive learning – and families and communities may undervalue the importance of girls’ education. Then there’s early marriage and pregnancy, which also leads to dropouts. An estimated 2 million children between seven and 13 are out of school, and almost one in three girls marries before the age of 18.
The Keeping Adolescent Girls in School (KAGIS) project is providing girls in Tanzania with support to carry on with their schooling, giving access to inspiring mentors, and building confidence through sport in partnership with the Tanzania Football Association.
KAGIS gives girls the choice to do just about anything, which, in turn, helps their parents, their brothers, their sisters, their communities – everyone – see that girls really can do anything they set their minds to, if only they have the chance.
Uniglobe Travel is proud to be re-invigorating our partnership with Plan International through this initiative. Together, with your support, many more girls will stay in school.
